German authorities searched 14 properties, including a brothel in Kiel, as part of a major investigation into suspected money laundering and illegal gambling. The operation targeted eight suspects and also resulted in authorities securing millions of euros in real estate and other assets.
The large-scale raids took place on May 6, 2026, in several locations in Schleswig-Holstein, including Kiel, Flensburg and Harrislee. According to information from the Schleswig-Holstein State Criminal Police Office (LKA), investigators had been working on the case since 2023.
Investigation Started in 2023
Authorities suspect that people allegedly connected to organized crime attempted to conceal money originating from criminal activities. Investigators believe some of this money may then have been invested in otherwise legitimate businesses.
According to the investigation, intermediaries or so-called straw men may also have been used to purchase properties in Kiel and Flensburg on behalf of the people behind the operation. Authorities have been investigating these suspected financial structures for several years.
The enforcement measures reportedly targeted eight suspects. Despite the scale of the operation, no arrests were made during the raids.
Brothel Among 14 Properties Searched
Once investigators believed they had gathered sufficient information and evidence, the General Public Prosecutor’s Office authorized searches of multiple locations. A total of 14 properties were subsequently searched as part of the coordinated operation.
The locations included businesses, private residences and prostitution-related premises in Kiel, Flensburg and Harrislee. A brothel in Kiel was among the properties searched by investigators.
The fact that a brothel was searched does not by itself mean that the prostitution business or its workers were accused of criminal activity. According to the information released about the case, the broader investigation concerns suspected money laundering, illegal gambling and alleged organized crime structures.
€2.6 Million in Real Estate Secured
The financial scale of the investigation is considerable. As part of measures designed to secure suspected criminal proceeds, authorities secured properties with a reported total value of approximately €2.6 million.
Investigators also secured additional assets worth more than €540,000. Together, the real estate and other assets involved in the measures therefore had a reported value of more than €3.1 million.
Asset seizure can play an important role in investigations into suspected money laundering and organized crime. It can prevent potentially criminal proceeds from being sold, transferred or otherwise moved while authorities continue their investigation.
Suspected Money Laundering at Center of Investigation
The main suspicion is that money generated through criminal activities may have been concealed before being invested in legitimate businesses and real estate. Investigators are examining whether individuals allegedly connected to organized crime used these structures to disguise the origin of the funds.
Real estate can be particularly relevant in money laundering investigations because large amounts of money can be transferred through property transactions. The alleged use of intermediaries to acquire properties is therefore one of the issues being examined by investigators.
The authorities have not publicly established the guilt of the eight suspects. The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation, and no arrests were reported during the May operation.
Investigation Included Kiel, Flensburg and Harrislee
The raids were not limited to the prostitution sector or to a single city. Investigators searched different types of properties across Kiel, Flensburg and Harrislee as they examined the suspected financial network.
The Kiel brothel was one location within this much larger operation. Based on the information released about the case, authorities are primarily attempting to establish where the suspected criminal funds originated, how they were moved and where they were ultimately invested.
The investigation by authorities in Schleswig-Holstein remains focused on suspected money laundering, illegal gambling and possible links to organized crime. The assets secured during the raids represent one of the most significant immediate results of the operation.
