Police arrested a Hungarian couple for running an illegal brothel near the Wels train station. They are accused of forcing Hungarian women into prostitution and keeping most of the money for themselves.
They kept at least half of the women’s earnings
After months of investigation, police found out that the couple had been taking advantage of two women from September last year until February 11 of this year.
The women were in a tough financial situation, and the couple pressured them into working at the brothel. Clients had to pay in cash, and the couple kept at least half of the money.
Officers arrested a 39-year-old Hungarian man in Wels under a European arrest warrant from Hungary. He was carrying over €7,000, which police believe came from the illegal business.
When officers searched the brothel, they found two women who said they were forced to work there.
A 37-year-old Hungarian woman at the scene was also arrested. The Wels Public Prosecutor’s Office said she made tens of thousands of euros by exploiting the victims.
The man was sent to the Wels correctional facility while the police continue investigating.
