Sarintha Olarenshaw, the ex-wife of former Australian football player Rick Olarenshaw, has been sentenced to seven months in a Bali prison because she was running an illegal brothel. She had been living in Seminyak, Bali, with her two children.
She owned a wellness center
Sarintha Olarenshaw owned a spa in Bali. However, while it officially operated as a wellness center, the workers there were offering illegal sexual services. Prostitution is against the law in Indonesia, and when authorities found out, they arrested her and put her on trial.
In court, Olarenshaw claimed that the brothel wasn’t really hers. She said her ex-husband, Ricky Olarenshaw, along with his brother and two other Australian men, were actually in charge.
She accused them of using her name on paperwork and pressuring her to take the blame after their divorce.
Ricky Olarenshaw, who now lives on Australia’s Gold Coast, denied everything. The court ruled in his favor and decided that Sarintha Olarenshaw was responsible. She will stay in jail until May.
Another couple was also arrested
In a separate case, an Australian couple was also arrested for running an illegal brothel in Bali. The couple owned the place in Kuta and made between 55,000 and 167,000 euros each year. The Australian couple also got seven months in jail.
Indonesia has very strict rules against prostitution. People caught running illegal brothels face serious punishment. Authorities say these cases are a warning to foreigners that they must follow local laws or risk going to jail.
