A series of violent robberies in Hanau is being reviewed in court as the trial of a 22-year-old man started on Tuesday, November 5, at the Hanau Regional Court. The man is accused of committing several robberies at a brothel, two gaming halls, and a restaurant, with each crime involving violence.
According to prosecutors, the first robbery happened last winter. The man allegedly went into a local restaurant and threatened two employees with a weapon. He reportedly hit them on the head, injuring them, and then ran away with about 150 euros.
The next robbery was at a gaming hall, where the violence got worse. The man reportedly grabbed a female employee by the hair, slammed her head on the floor, and dragged her across the room. She had serious head injuries, but the man left without getting any money.
In another attack at a different gaming hall, the man allegedly used a weapon to threaten and hurt an employee by hitting and kicking them. This time, he escaped with 2,200 euros in cash. In his final robbery attempt, the man and an accomplice targeted a brothel in Hanau. They entered the building wearing masks and armed with pepper spray. They tried to rob the brothel, spraying two people, but left with nothing when they couldn’t find any money.
The trial is being conducted by the 7th Criminal Chamber of the Hanau Regional Court and is expected to last six sessions. A verdict is expected by early December.

This investigation is one of the biggest handled by the Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office, with more than 60 suspects. Earlier this year, a big police raid with over 1,000 officers took down an international smuggling network that allegedly used the brothel as a cover for illegal activities, like smuggling wealthy people into Germany. The new owners of the brothel are suspected of using the building for money laundering and smuggling, while giving daily operations to others. The building is now under state control, and the investigation is still going on, with many questions left unanswered.
